Benin reaps fruitful benefits from OIC membership
APA - Cotonou (Benin) Benin has fruitful co-operation with the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) marked by significant contributions of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
"Since Benin joined the OIC in December 1983, the IDB has funded several development projects in this country, including the Natitingou agricultural polytechnic complex," revealed a study of the Africa and Middle East bureau of the Beninese Foreign Affairs ministry.
In addition to this school, the IDB has also financed the realisation of the village hydraulic in Oueme administrative division (south-west), the inventory of the subsoil water resources of the country, the asphalting of the Djougou-Natitingou road, the rehabilitation of the harbour infrastructures, the construction and asphalting of the Savalou-Djougou road.
The Foreign Affairs study continued that the IDB also granted institutional support to the Beninese planning, economic restoration and employment promotion ministry.
The financial institution of the OIC also proposes to finance mainly the "Education III" programme of Benin which includes construction and equipment of 120 schools, 120 residences for teachers, the rehabilitation of 40 schools and one training school for primary level teachers.
The IDB would also finance a construction and equipment project of residence halls at the university of Abomey Calavi, and the protection against coastal erosion in Cotonou and Seme-Kpodji commune.
